Mountain Oaks

Paradise is to be found at Mountain Oaks Winery, Slanghoek in the Breede River Valley (only an hours drive from Cape Town). Mark and Christine Stevens bought this farm in 1999 after a six year search. They poured love and labour into it, renovating the old Cape Dutch homestead, working on gussying up the old, planting new vineyards and building a winery. They farm it with organic integrity and are a certified organic vineyard. They have a herd of pedigreed Jersey island cows and several Percheron horses to provide manure for the vineyards and orchards and ducks and geese to keep the vineyards free of snails!

Very peaceful, green and soft with high mountains all round. A visit there is enough to make you want to unpack your bags and move in.
